This phenomenon is frequently triggered or exacerbated by dual-tasking (the simultaneous performance of a motor and a cognitive task), which significantly increases the risk of recurrent falls [1, 2]. While cognitive deficits across multiple domains are more pronounced in patients who experience freezing, the specific neural mechanisms governing how these individuals allocate limited attentional resources during complex movement remain poorly understood [3]. Current clinical assessments often focus on gait speed, yet this metric may not fully capture the underlying maladaptive strategies used to manage cognitive-motor interference (the decline in performance when two tasks compete for the same brain resources) [4].
