Percutaneous Cryoablation Reduces Pain and Volume in Umbilical Endometriosis

Abdominal wall endometriosis represents a challenging clinical entity where ectopic endometrial tissue develops between the peritoneum and the skin, frequently presenting as a palpable mass characterized by cyclic pain [1, 2]. While often associated with prior obstetric or gynecological surgical scars, primary cases can occur in the absence of previous incisions, complicating the differential diagnosis with hernias, lipomas, or hematomas [3, 4]. Current management typically relies on surgical excision, which can be invasive and occasionally requires mesh repair for larger defects [4, 2]. Given the increasing incidence of these lesions alongside rising rates of cesarean sections, there is a growing clinical need for less invasive therapeutic options [1, 2]. To address these clinical limitations, a recent study evaluated the safety and efficacy of percutaneous image-guided cryoablation specifically for umbilical endometriosis.
