Impulsivity, clinically defined as a preference for immediate over delayed rewards, is a core behavioral feature in numerous conditions, from substance use disorders and bipolar disorder to problematic internet use and binge eating [1, 2, 3, 4]. This tendency, often quantified using delay discounting tasks, contributes significantly to functional impairment and complicates patient prognosis [1]. While interventions such as cognitive training and non-invasive brain stimulation are under investigation, developing more effective strategies requires a precise understanding of the underlying neurocircuitry [5, 6, 7]. A recent study provides new insight by identifying a specific structural brain correlate of individual differences in this form of decision-making.
